Internet – High Speed Connection at Edgewater

The NBN Company (NBNCo) first approached the Board at Edgewater in 2016. They came to inspect the building, and told us that it seemed too hard for now, and that the installation of a node at the building would have to wait until possibly 2018. (A node is a box where the existing copper infrastructure within Edgewater Towers is connected to the fibre cable from the exchange. The practical result is that there will be fast speeds from the exchange to the node, but because the copper infrastructure is old technology, the speeds within the building will be slower, and constrained by lack of bandwidth.)

As a result, the Board approached DGTek to install fibre to each apartment (FTTP – fibre to the premises) to connect each apartment to the building’s network. Currently (as far as we know), only the owners of 7H and 8A have not connected their apartments to the network.

Our network is capable of providing speeds from 150Mbps (download AND upload) up to 1,000 Mbps. A special price of $59 per month (as at October 2023) has been negotiated with Pineapple Net (an ISP that uses the technology that DGTek have installed). An equivalent plan from Telstra (100 download/17 upload) cost about $110 per month. Contact Pineapple on 1300 857 501 or by email at amelia@dgconnect.net.au. Mention that you live at Edgewater Towers and that you want the special rate.

The NBNCo finally completed the installation of fibre cable to the building (FTTB) in 2020. They are using the existing telephone wiring inside the building to connect apartments to the NBN. This will result in a connection that is considerably (and noticeably) slower than our private network, which could be critical if you are working from home and require a stable, secure, and reliable connection.
